Forbidden Kingdom... Not That Good

I believe that The Forbidden Kingdom was a hit because two great Kung Fu Masters were starring in that film. Jackie Chan and Jet Li teamed up in a movie for the first time and I think the producers used this well. I know that this is enough to make people go to the movie, but I’m not sure if this enough to sustain your interest all throughout the movie. Check out my review on this movie in Moviezen.

One thing that really annoyed me was the forming of the names of Jackie Chan and Jet Li together using the letter J as a connector. The first time I saw it in the movie poster; I thought it was weird especially for a Hollywood film because it just shrieks amateur to do it that way. I think there should have been a better way of presenting it without making Jet Li’s name an afterthought. Because the way it was written, you don’t see Jet Li’s name immediately. You only see it because you think that something is hanging there on the side that just catches your attention. That’s when you see Jet Li’s name.

I thought it was forgivable to do it in the movie poster, but they incorporated it into the introduction of the movie! Ugh! I think it would have been better to just flash their names side by side. I think they did it that way because they are trying to incorporate the Chinese and Western culture together. Chinese words are usually written vertically as opposed to the horizontal way of writing English. But it just doesn’t work! Similarly, making the ancient Chinese people speak English is surely a disastrous and hilarious way of fusing the two cultures. Again, it doesn’t work!

Watch The Forbidden Kingdom if you like great Kung Fu stunts and choreography. Surely, that’s one thing they did right! But if you are looking for depth in the plot, you will be disappointed and you will just find yourself both annoyed and amused with the way the Chinese characters are delivering their English lines!
